Extended time frame for foreign nationals in Canada to apply for restoration of status

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances that may impact on the ability of temporary residents to submit complete applications for the restoration of their status in Canada, to have their status restored, or to find means to travel back home, IRCC announced the implementation of a new public policy that provides an extension to apply for restoration beyond the current 90-day time frame.

Visitors, former students, or former workers whose status expired after January 30, 2020, and who remained in Canada now have until December 31, 2020 to apply for the restoration of their status, provided they meet the requirements for the type of status they are seeking to restore.
