Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has announced new entry rules for citizens of Brazil, Bulgaria & Romania, valid as of May 1, 2017 (9:00 am. EDT). Certain citizens of Brazil, Bulgaria & Romania are now able to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) instead of a visitor visa, to fly to, or transit through a Canadian airport.
To be eligible for entry with an eTA, Brazilian, Bulgarian and Romanian citizens need to have held a Canadian visitor visa in the past 10 years, or to currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa.
Brazilian, Bulgarian and Romanian citizens who intend to travel to Canada by car, bus, train or boat, including a cruise ship, as well as those who are not eligible for an eTA, are still require to obtain and present a valid visitor's visa.
Travelers from these three states who already have a valid Canadian visa do not need to apply for an eTA to fly to Canada and can continue travelling with their visitor visa until it expires.
