September 21, 2017: the effective provisional date for the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Econo

The Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) entered into force provisionally on September 21, 2017. CETA will be fully implemented once all European Union (EU) member states ratify the agreement according to their respective constitutional requirements. In a press release of September 20, 2017, the European Commission indicated that the Commission will "work with EU Member States and Canada to ensure its smooth and effective implementation".
