On may 17, 2019, the Government of Canada announced the removal of all countries from the designated country of origin list, with the consequence of effectively suspending the 2012 Designated Country of Origin policy until it could be repealed through further legislative action.

As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the removal of all countries from the designated country of origin list does not represent a reflection of changes in conditions in any of the countries previously on the list, but is merely a Canadian policy change.
